About a year ago I purchased what I was told was a 1952 Desoto Powermaster. Since that time I've had reason to believe that the Powermaster didn't come into effect until 1953. As my '52 is in complete original condition, I was wondering if anyone can tell me if some of the later 52's did come out with the powermaster transmission. Or is my so called '52 really a '53 :?:
Many thanks, Bob Fisher

Early 1952 DeSotos were known as either a DeLuxe or a Custom series both of which had the Powermaster 6 cylinder engine. This until later in the model year when DeSoto introduced the Firedome V-8

For 1953 there were 2 series, the Powermaster which had the 6 and the Firedome which had the V-8

For 1952 there should be a name plate on the front fender saying what series you have. Also the 52 has a split windshield and detachable rear fenders

The 53 would say Firedome or Powermaster within the chrome lines on the front fender, would have a one piece windshield and the taillights would be at the top of the fenders

Both years had variations of the semi-automatic Tip-Toe transmission
