Your paint code is 322 which is listed as Spring Green (Light). This was a non metallic paint. There were two other green colors, a medium and a dark both of which were metallic paint colors. Your trim cloth was code 326 which was green. The model 35 indicates your car is a Firedome 4-door sedan.

Have you noticed the Spring Green 1953 Powermaster DeSoto currently on ebay? I know it won't help you, but it's worth looking at. It is said to have the original paint.

When I was having my 55 DeSoto painted, the people involved could not shoot the color chip to get the formula. They were able to clean up and shoot an area on the cowl which was covered by the front fender and had not been exposed to the sunlight and the elements.

The web site: shows color chips from all years for all cars. They claim to be able to match the original colors. This may not be an option for you being outside the USA.

Yes i have noticed this car and it`s a beauty.
I do have a box with some original paint but there is no code.
Maybe they can shoot the colour from this one.
I have to ask.
Thank you for the link.

Post subject:  original paint color

I was talking with my paint vendor today (DuPont) and asked about your 53 Desoto paint color. If you have access to DuPont paint in Europe, they do have a modern equivalent to the original green color on your car. This equivalent was produced by taking the original master color chip in their files and scanning it with a colorimeter to get the closest modern color to match the original chip.

If you can buy DuPont paint in your area I'll be glad to give you the modern closest match color code and you can look at that color in their paint charts. I'm guessing it's probably what we in the paint trade call a
fleet color or full spectrum color. These earth-toned colors of the early 50s aren't usually offered in modern car colors.

Post subject:  DuPont modern pant code for 53 Desoto

Hi Petter-DuPont's Color Library people scanned their master chip and came up with GS 517 as the closest match to the chip on file. This should be some sort of green color.
If you go in your DuPont paint vendor, they can look up the color in their chip charts and show you the closest match color. When i painted a 55 Desoto a peculiar earth-tone shade of green some years ago, the paint vendor had no close match but suggested starting with a Land Rover color and tinting into the Desoto color. Sine we had plenty of original paint, it worked out quite well to get a very close match.
