Post subject: Tail lenses 1950 deluxe
PostPosted: Fri Jul 30, 2010 12:32 pm
Can somebody help me finding some nice taillenses (mine are shining white through) for my 1950 desoto deluxe. I have attached a picture of how they must look like. I only need the upper two.
They are also on e-bay, but prices there go sky high.
Thanks.

The pictures look like the lenses for a 1949.

The 49 had what can be described as a tacked on fin on top of the fender while the 50 was located lower to the bumper

The 1949 and 1950 DeSotos are very much alike. What is the shape of the turn signal lense on the front grille? 1949 would be rectangular with 1950 being circular

They are rectangular. But my engine is an S14 and the title shows 1950.

What is the serial number of your car? The S14 is the designation for the 1950 model; however, the lenses shown and described appear to be for a 49 DeSoto although the front lenses should be clear. I know of no one making reproduction lenses for your model and they would be more expensive than used ones on ebay if they were available.

I will look at the serial, if You can tell me where to find it.
I have attached a picture from the front of the car.
As I mentioned I need a pair of taillenses. Original or reproductions.

How about a picture of the rear of the car

The parking light lens on the front of your car would make one believe your car is a 1949 DeSoto. The serial number for your car should be on your title. The serial number on your car should be on a tag on the left front door hinge pillar.

The serial numbers for Detroit built 1949 Deluxes (S13-S) ranged from 6212001 to 6232740.

The serial number range for Detroit built 1950 Deluxes (S14-S) was 6233501 to 6262653.

1949 front and back
I suspect your car was not sold until 1950 and was titled as a 50 instead of a 49 that it is.

Your car is a 1949 S13-S Deluxe built in Los Angeles CA.

60,002,002 Start of production in LA
60,002,638 Your car
60,004,755 End of production in LA

Yours would be an early production car so I do not know why it would be titled as a 1950?

 Post subject: Year on title

I wouldn't worry too much about the date on the title. I have a '36 DeSoto titled as a '35. Typos happen and often the year the car was sold is listed as the year on the title. Your '49 DeSoto is a handsome car. Enjoy it.

Even though your car is a 1949 DeSoto, the S14 engine is a 1950 engine. It's hard to imagine that a S14 engine would be installed in an early production 1949 DeSoto at the factory. Could the engine have been changed out?

Are these lenses for only 49, or are they also placed on 48 and earlier?
