I have a 1948 S-11 DeSoto and the Fuel gauge is not working. We have a new NOS fuel guage and a new sending unit. There are three terminals on the fuel gauge and there are two on the sending unit. IF we understand the wiring diagram, the bottom terminal on the fuel guage connects to the ignition switch for the power. Then it looks like the drivers side terminal of the fuel guage goes to the sending unit terminal marked "1" and the passenger side terminal on the fuel guage goes to the sending unit terminal marked "2". It still does not work. WE have checked the wiring for any shorts or breaks and have also checked that the sending unit resistance changes as the float moved up and down. Any ideas? Does one on the terminals on the fuel guage that connects to the sending unit need to be grounded? I am out of ideas. Any help would be appreciated.

The Dash mounted Fuel Gauge Indicator has a Blue Wire bolted
to #1 and a Black & Yellow Wire Bolted to #2. Both of these
are wrapped together and come from the Fue Gauge Unit in the
Gas Tank.

One wire is from the Ignition Switch ( the terminal should have
four wires bolted to the same Post ) to the Fuel Gauge Indicator
( this one of the four ) on another terminal.

The round hole in the back of the Fuel Gauge Indicator is for the
light unit when it is snap pressed into its position.

The Dash Mounted - Fuel Gauge Indicator is grounded by/from/through
its mounting hardware.

I sure hope that I said all of this correctly.

We hope that you get it running before the July De Soto Convention
in Reno.
