I've been told that the Vin Number for my '59 Fireflite has too many digits, 20 when it should only have 11.

0429 453 M451 107143 374

Can anyone help me with this problem?

What you have is the top line of your data plate

0429 car made on April 29 (Where is the plate located? By the driver's side door hinge?)

453 Desoto (4) Fireflite (5) 4 door sedan (3)

M451 1959 (M) Desoto (4) Fireflite (5) made at Jefferson (1)

107143 the 7143rd FF made

373 gray cloth and vinyl interior

There should be a 3 letter combination which would be your top/body/sweep colors

Also some letter number combinations which are your options

If there was a title the VIN would be M451 107143

Bob, can you be more specific? Just kidding. What an awesome answer. We newbies appreciate the thoroughness of responses like this. Thanks Bob!

Ted: What is the 3 letter combination(the factory colors) for your car?

BTY: 373 in my earlier reply is a typo, it should be 373
