Ryan,

Welcome to Message Board and to the DeSoto owner family. Besides visiting this board, you'll want to follow the link on the left to "Renew / Join the Club". I'm the '55 model year coordinator and there are several other folks who visit this board and we are all eager to help you get your '55's - or at least one - back on the road. Good luck with your work!

Mark

Hello to all out there in Desoto land, My name is Bill Cypher I live in Washingtonville NY. I have restored and owned many old cars , My most recent being a 1948 s11c long wheel base retired funeral coach , it was parked in a barn for 35 years in home Pennsylvania. I love all old cars but mostly different ones that are rarely seen, How different can you get!? I plan on bringing this car back to its original glory and then some . I joined the club recently so I can share the experience with others and to maybe get some help in finding parts, I have a Chrysler book that shows production #s for Desoto a 3 year period 46 47 48 It says there were 3530 long wheel base sedans produced and 120 limos produced, does anyone know to determine on from the other? it also states in the same book that the id #s were in no way helpful in positively identifying the body type of the car . Any info on this would be greatly appreciated .Now I will go out in the garage and start throwing sparks again, LOL check with you latter Thanks Bill.

Hello!

My name is Brent Jacobsen. I live in Ann Arbor, Michigan- but I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. I bought my first Desoto in 1972 while going to school in Corvallis, Oregon. In 1972, a 1949 car wasn't that old- rather like a 1993 car would be today. I drove it as transportation fixing and restoring it as I drove it. In 1977, I got a job as an engineer at Ford, a job I had until retiring in 2012. As a Ford alumni, you might expect brand partiality, but that isn't necessarily so. I love all cars, particularly those that exhibit some new technology. In 1980, I bought my second Desoto, this time a 1952 Firedome 2-door Hardtop with power steering and power brakes. I am enclosing a photo of this car. I sold the trusty 1949 car in 1999, but I still own the 1952. After retiring, I have hauled it out of mothballs, rebuilt the engine, and am starting to enjoy it. I look forward to sharing adventures with other members!

Hi Brent, let me be the first to welcome you to the site. You have a very nice looking '52. If you haven't done so yet I would urge you to join the National De Soto Club and our Great Lakes Chapter. Our Chapter has our Fall meet at the Ypsi Orphan Car Show in September. We hope you will join us at that show so we can meet you and get a look at beautiful '52 hardtop.

Hi Les,

I have already joined the NDC, and am interested in joining the Great Lakes Chapter. It is my intention to have this car in the Ypsilanti Orphan Car show.

This Desoto is original, not restored. As such, it has a lot of rough edges. I look forward to meeting you folks and discussing opinions on the best way of handling some of those rough edges!

Brent, looking forward to meeting you at Ypsi and you can join the Chapter there or if you want to join before then I will send the information. We usually have about 25 De Soto's at Ypsi so you will get to meet most of our group.

The Great Lakes Chapter has been very active since becoming a Chapter about eleven years ago. We have hosted two NDC conventions and co-hosted another. Last year we hosted the convention in Kalamazoo.

We have a pot luck lunch at Ypsi with the Chapter furnishing the fried chicken and members bring a dish to pass so plan on joining us for lunch. We are a very family oriented group. Spouses and other family members are welcome and are very involved in our group.

I also have a '52, a 4dr. sedan, and the NDC 1952 advisor Mark Waite has been very helpful with information on our cars. I would suggest contacting Mark with any questions you have or just contact him to talk about your '52. If you need contact info for Mark I will send it to you.

Looking forward to meeting you in Ypsi, Les

H there!

Rob Anderson here, now the owner of a 47' 4-door sedan. I am located in Andover, MA. The car runs and drives beautifully. Pump the pedal twice and sneeze at the push button and she starts right up  . The car needs a few aesthetic fixes: the vinyl runners at the entrance to each door (missing), the chrome trim that runs under the doors (missing), new carpeting, antenna... Picked her up last night so i am sure i will run into more stuff.

I will post a picture later of the data plate, I would love if someone could tell me the original options and paint color.

I look forward to sharing on the site, and hopefully getting some advice from all you experts! Thanks.

Rob

Rob,

Welcome to the world of De Sotos! I'm hoping that you'll join the NDC (if you haven't already) so that you can enjoy our great magazine and have fun at our conventions.

I just wondering which type of '47 you have - is it a Custom or a DeLuxe?

Hi Everyone,
Tim just set me up with an account here as I recently purchased a '57 Fireflite Sportsman 2 door. I bought the car in Nevada and have it in storage there until I can get it home to Florida. The body is in great shape and the car has some good options, but it needs ton of work. I'm looking forward to getting the car on the road!
I'm a former forward look era owner ('57 Imperial 2 door, '57 Plymouth Plaza 4 door, and '58 Chrysler Windsor 2 door) so I'm somewhat familiar with the cars, but this is my first Desoto and I'm excited! I plan to join the club soon.
Sean

Welcome Sean,

Congratulations on your purchase of the '57 Fireflite. I like the single headlights - less common than the quads.

Keep us posted with your progress.

Hi William, it is a custom.

Also, i think my emails to Les must be hitting his spam filter (he has not responded to multiple emails), does anyone have contact with him?
