Does anybody know whether there were safety belts in a 1949 convertible? I would like to place 4 safety belts in my car, but do not really know what type of the correct time eara I need. And if there are any, where could I buy them? My 2 grandchildren (3 and 5years old) love to sit in the back, but without the belts it is not safe.
Love to hear from you

And have a very nice day. The smile on my face stays on when I think of my beautiful DeSoto that is standing in the garage at the moment.

Generally speaking, seat belts were not offered as factory or dealer installed options until the mid-'50's, well after your '49 was sold. Ford's Lifeguard design ad campaign of 1956 forced GM and MoPar to at least offer optional seat belts ... ile_safety).

Your best and quickest solution is contact some of these vendors found when searching "vintage seat belts" on Google: ... gLakvD_BwE ... gJ7MPD_BwE

Good luck with your project. I've added seat belts to the front seat of my '55 but need to add them to the rear seat like you.
