Post subject:  Patrick Bisson's 1954 DeSoto Coronado

Here are some photos of Patrick Bisson's 1954 DeSoto Coronado. The Coronado model was a "Spring Special", and spring special cars often used color schemes from the next model year. Pat's car is wearing blue and white colors from the 1955 paint color palette. Here is a front quarter view:

Now, for the geeky folks, here is an engine compartment photo. There are a couple of things to note here. First Pat's car is using the last of the "Gemmer Hydragyde" power steering units. Late in the 1954 model year, Chrysler switched to the new "Coaxial" power steering gear. Second, although it is hard to see, Pat's car is equipped with the new for 1954 "focalized" engine mount. The rubber insulators are mounted at an angle perpendicular to the roll axis of the engine. In this way, the mount absorbs the rolling moment inherent to V-8 engines in shear which is easier to damp. The 1954 model has a much smoother perceived idle in the car than my 1952 with 4 puck engine mounting.
