RW, in this day and age I do not know of any benefit to a dual point distributor except for originality - which is very important. Check out the Pertronix induction unit used to replace the the points. I intended to do this but sold the Pertonix unit to someone in Sweden; only because I was not finding the time to install it.
You should be able to find Pertonix in a Google search. I believe they work well.
I do not know of running with single points. The dual points are a pain to adjust but I have done it. I plan t6 get another Pertronix unt, if the price is
OK.
Ican send pics if necessary.

.......increase the dwell time and thus produce a hotter spark. DeSoto used them on the Firedome and Fireflite through '55 then went to a single point distributor in '56 when the switch to 12V was made. Unless you are racing, you probably won't notice much difference.

Have a nice day
Steve
