Help me solve this mystery. I took the dual points out and installed correct Petronix unit and did new cam, lifters, gear and chain and can't get it to run at 4 deg. btdc. it runs smooth at about 10 deg. after. checked TDC with the plug out and it is dead on the timing mark???? the only thing I can think of is maybe its a result of the dual point that are now missing..that might account for the 15 deg. delay. anyone else run into this problem? dave

Yes...you may be a tooth off on your oil pump drive gear/distributor gear. I have a Pertronix unit in my 55 DeSoto (with a 57 Adventurer engine), and the 55 DeSoto engine in the picture. The Adventurer engine gave me Fits...until I figured out the problem...

thanks, Tony. I never even tried to line up gears on the dist. drive cause, I figured, if its pointing to No. 1 it should run no matter which direction the dist. was in. I'll pull it out and let you know. dave
