I am proud to say I actually found a Desoto in a barn! I have a 46 Desoto taxi as well as a 47 club coupe. I had arranged to go look at a Desoto a man was advertising on craigslist but he was calling it a Dodge Image I figured I could use it for parts for my taxi or vice versa. When I went to look at it the guy that I was talking to wasn't home but his dad was there. I told him I was there to look at the Desoto and he started walking back towards the woods. Halfway there he started veering towards this block building where I found this. Image
Image I quickly asked if he was interested in selling it, he said yes but his son would determine the price. I had a price set in my head that I would offer him if he took too long to decide but luckily he made me an offer of 2k less than I was going to. Well arrangements have been made and it will be coming home with me as well as its brother 8)

So the guy was actually selling the DeSoto in the woods, but his dad thought it was the one in the barn. BUT... you bought BOTH cars? NICE FIND!! Good Luck!

Just wondering what condition the hood ornament is in on the car that was in the barn. It looks like it's in really good shape in the photos. If so, that could be worth the price you paid for both cars. And it still had its side mirror too!! It looks like you really did have a good find. Keep up posted please.

That sounds like a great find! I, too, have an S-11 De Soto taxi (1947), but I'm not sure quite what to do with her, as she is a little better than a parts car. I originally bought her as a parts car for my more or less restored 1947 De Soto Custom.

It would be great if you sent a story into De Soto Adventures about your find and subsequent restoration.

Best of luck with your project.

The hood ornament is in really good shape. According to the son of the owner the car has been sitting in there for about 30 years. I haven't had a chance to check the odometer yet but will let you know how many miles are on it when I get it home.

I have an S-ll and am in need of a few parts if you can spare them. Mostly small stuff. How can we email directly?
