Saw this on the web: http://www.statesville.com/gallery/my-c ... 76677.html

Jay is a true southern gentleman and a regular attendee with the Carolina group at the Charlotte Auto Fair DeSoto displays. Nice to see him and his sharp '59 get sum well-deserved pub.

MY CLASSIC CAR: Jay Wilhelm's '59 DeSoto

Nov 7, 2017 Updated 5 hrs ago (0)

Q: When and how did you acquire the car?

JAY WILHELM: I got the car in 1965 from a friend. I traded my Plymouth for his DeSoto.

Q: Tell us about your car (specs, restoration, etc.).

JW: Up until 1972, it was my daily driver. Then I brought it into my garage and stripped it down to the frame and did a complete restoration. I did all of the work myself.

Q: Do you have a fun or interesting story about the car?

JW: When my son got married in 1996, he and his bride rode off in the car.

Q: Why do you love the car?

JW: It’s unique. There are very few of them around.

Mark,

Thank you so much for posting this! Jay is a super person and deserves the recognition. I have known him for many years through the Carolina Chapter and we always see each other at the Charlotte Auto Fair. I don't think Jay has missed but one or two of those events in the last 20 years!

As a matter of fact he just had some surgery on his leg in August and we didn't expect him to come to the Auto Fair. He wasn't really suppose to be using that leg an was going through a lot of physical therapy with it and we were pretty certain that he wasn't going to come at all. Finally about a week before the show he let me know that he may be attending and riding in with his son in modern transportation. That was great news! On the day of the show he called me to let me know he was approaching the track and to ask how to find us since we were parked in a different spot this year. Well, when he showed up not only was he with his son but he was in his DeSoto and HE was driving! (Much to his son's dismay!)

Anyway... quite the guy. Thanks again for posting!

Dean
